John Mino

John provides clients with skilled advice on general corporate and public law matters.

In particular, John counsels private equity funds on formation and investor matters and closely-held clients on mergers, acquisitions and venture capital arrangements. He provides counsel to venture capital and buyout funds, e-commerce start-up companies and investors in such funds and companies. Frequently, John will coordinate the legal aspects of fund investment activity in a variety of portfolio companies and thereafter provide ongoing counsel to such portfolio companies during their period of ownership by a fund and ultimately conduct the legal aspects of the portfolio company sale process. John’s experience also includes handling business financings, private placements, general real estate matters and advising domestic and international companies on matters of corporate structuring.

John served as the elected village clerk for the Village of Gates Mills from 1991-2000, chairing the Village’s Insurance and Compensation Committees. He is a trustee of the Ohio Canal Corridor, and a member of the Ohio State and Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Associations. A frequent lecturer, John has spoken at the Case Western Reserve University Weatherhead School of Management, various telecommunications seminars and before the Family Business Planning Institute. John serves as corporate secretary of NineSigma, Inc., a worldwide leader in open innovation founded in 2001. 

John is a member of the Cuyahoga County Republican Central Committee. He has been involved in numerous local, state of Ohio and federal election campaigns and was an original member of America’s
Majority Trust (2001), a leadership PAC established by Rob Portman during his tenure as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. He also served on Rob Portman’s Campaign Finance Committee (2009-2010) during Portman’s successful campaign for the United States Senate. He serves on the Case Western Reserve University, Government Relations Advisory Committee.

John began his tenure with Calfee in 1984, becoming a partner in 1993. He is the chairman of Calfee’s Contributions Committee and a trustee of The Calfee Fund for Good Government, Calfee’s political action committee.
